#AFPFC Best Of IMHO

Another Association of Fundraising Professionals international fundraising conference is behind us. Even from Australia, I learned by plugging into social media #AFPFC and following some great people who posted great content. Here’s my roundup and if you want to access fundraising conference handouts and slides click here.  If any of this inspires you to share your fundraising experience – submit your #afpfc 2017 speaker application before May 6!

This is important as we “talk” about 100% giving  and fundraising around Board tables and this research will prove what we’ve been saying and show the impact and importance of the Board recruitment, empowerment and giving.Tom Ahern @thattomahern tweeted:

#AFPFC Adrian Sargeant’s Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy will study the attitudes of boards @ orgs. which have increased giving 200-300%

More on Boards, Diversity and Millennials from Chronicle of Philanthropy
The AFP recently released a Diversity and Inclusion Survey Report, which found that 59 percent of fundraisers believe that fundraising staffs are no more ethnically diverse now than they were in 2001.
Working with donors and their Donor Advised Funds is imperative to our fundraising and relationship building. The NonProfit Times reported on Drew Hastings, chief development officer of the National Philanthropic Trust in Jenkintown, PA presentation at #AFPFC.
Donor-advised funds have traditionally been a tool for individuals or families to support a variety of charities they care about, Hastings said. The advising privileges then pass to the next generation. But now we are seeing an increase in non-traditional uses, including corporations using them to fund their corporate philanthropy and employee matching gift programs; individuals or groups using them as a crowdfunding/giving circle; and the ultra-high net worth using them for their “giving while living” ethos, he said.
I also heard from Clay Buck, CFRE that Anne Melvin from Harvard made a splash as she has at CASE conferences previously. Check her out!
Of course there were sessions on digital fundraising, annual fund, campaigns (endowment and capital), communication etc. two and a half days, 4,000 attendees and some truly inspiring keynote speakers. Check out the #afpfc feed on twitter.
From Maeve Strathy Four Things She Learned at #AFPFC. She’s 9 years in the fundraising biz and clued in. I enjoyed following her #afpfc journey from afar.
  • Retaining Digital Donors and engaging donors after their gift from Steve Shattuck, Bloomerang Tech
  • Midlevel #donorlove from Mark Rovner, story telling guru
  • Fundraising as an investment via fundraising legend Kay Sprinkle Grace
  • Write like you’re a guest in your donor’s home – Thank you (again) Tom Ahern

The folks listed here added great fundraising content to social media not only during #AFPDC but always….you may want to follow them and see for yourself.
