Hope and Expectation by Seth Godin

Dear Readers,

For those who check in here or on my social media posts, you know I am a Seth Godin fan….this one did not work for me. Hope is not a strategy – at least in fundraising. As fundraisers, we need plans, we need to be donor centric, we need passion, commitment and belief that our donors care about our mission and work as much as we do…..As fundraisers we don’t expect – we offer opportunities to the right person at the right time and the donor is the only one who can make a decision that is right for them. With all due respect to Seth – I believe in those who make investments in our communities – hope is not a factor.

Hope and expectation

Hope is fuel, it moves us forward and it amplifies our best work.

Expectation is the killer of joy, the shortest route to disappointment. When we expect that something will happen, we can’t help but be let down…
