I have had a long distance love affair with Australia since my Junior Year Abroad. I am fortunate to have visited many times. I just returned from a great trip to Melbourne and the city did not disappoint.
Yes, it’s 20+ hours from the US east coast to Melbourne but so worth it. The city is walkable, bike friendly, great public transport, a foodies paradise and everyone is so helpful and friendly.
I spent one day walking from downtown to the South Wharf. As I sat on the south side of the Yarra River it struck me how the city reminded me of Paris. A river through the middle, activity on both sides, great food (yes that is a theme with all my travel).
I know now why Melbourne is rated one of the most livable cities in the world. Here’s my photo album – enjoy and make a plan to visit soon! (Although I would avoid United if you can….try Virgin or Qantas.)
